Now when I shut the lid windows shuts down, when I open the lid I have to re-start window thus giving me an improper shut down error. Also it does not matter where I set my power options.

I don't know what is triggering the shutoff. I think it shuts off by itself when I don't use the computer by using the keyboard, mouse, etc. When I let it idle and walk away from my desk, I come back to find it being shut off. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Since it works in Safe Mode, try the Clean Boot diagnostic procedure. Would you please elaborate on the disabled funtion in the antivirus program that you said windows update disabled?
