Marriage officiant credential filing For a person both Minnesota residents and non-residents to be authorized to perform marriage ceremonies in Minnesota, the person must be at least 21 years old and must file their "officiant credentials" with a Minnesota county. Contact the appropriate department in your state, city or county where marriage certificates are filed and ask if there is a procedure for authorizing nonreligious wedding officiants to perform marriages.

Alaska, Massachusetts and some counties in Virginia also offer this option. Ask an authorized person to perform the wedding ceremony with you.
