It may be some considerable time before we see this type of virotherapy being applied to the treatment of prostate cancer — even in a clinical research setting. The CBS report made it clear that the poliovirus did have a lethal effect on prostate cancer cells in the lab, but the possibility of using the site-specific injection procedure on most types of prostate cancer and many others as well was not mentioned.
