The regional event, one of 14 held around the country, took place Feb. This is the third time in the past six years that a Law School team has qualified for the national finals of the TYLA mock trial event. They defeated the University of St. Thomas in their only round. Judges and attorneys score student attorneys based on their ability to advocate. Drake has won the regional title four times in the past six years and has twice reached the final round of the national tournament.
All ABA-accredited law schools are invited to compete in the competition. The experience mirrors a real-life trial, and witnesses are provided by the regional host. Competitors meet their witnesses for the first time shortly before each round, allowing them to hone their trial advocacy skills.
